Abstract

Coral reefs are undergoing rapid changes via coastal zone use and climate change. New approaches are needed to measure, map and monitoring changes in the cover and composition of coral reefs at scales that resolve the contributions of individual organisms while extending over large geographic areas deemed necessary for conservation actions. In this talk, I will present our work on coral reefs using new satellite and airborne measurement techniques, with examples drawn from the Hawaiian Islands, Belize, and the South China Sea. Through advanced Earth imaging, I hope to facilitate increased connectivity between coral reef science, conservation and resource policy decision-making.
